How to Buy the Best Turntable for You

!±8± How to Buy the Best Turntable for You

How to buy the best turntable...Really depends on your funds and what you intend to use it for. The pro Dj will have different criteria than the home enthusiast. Lets take a look at some of the features that need to be considered.

What kind of drive does it have? There are two basic types. Belt drive and direct drive. The belt drive is often more favorable to home use. A Dj any way will probably opt for the direct drive due to the fact that the motor connects directly to the description platter and provides the best torque. Stops and starts are practically instantaneous. Belt drives tend to come to be loose over time and can affect the pitch. Especially when a turntable is put through the rigors a Dj would put it through.Due to the fact that the motor is directly under the platter in direct drive turntables, they tend to be a itsybitsy noisier than belt drives. While this may be appropriate at the club where there is a lot of background noise anyway, home users might find it troublesome. Of the two, direct drives are more expensive.

Is it Usb compatible? Usb turntables make it a snap to associate them directly to your computer and via the included software turn your old vinyl to mp3 files. Dj's and home enthusiasts both benefit from this technology. Although if this is not foremost to you, there are turntables which do not preserve this feature.

Price. There is a vast range of prices for turntables, with some of the Dj versions topping out a 00 or more. buyer versions may be had for 0. Just depends on your needs and budget. You get what you pay for though. Some of the more respected turntables are made by Denon, Technics, and Audio Technica.

Pitch Control. Dj's will find the models with changeable pitch operate invaluable in cueing up and matching the tempos of songs. Probably not a big factor in home use, but who knows.

Forward and reverse. Again other cool tool useful for Dj effects. But who knows. Some home enthusiasts may want to know what the Beatles undoubtedly said on some of their tunes that used "backward masking". Now's your chance!

Automatic start and stop. Some turntables offer self-acting start and stop. The stop feature undoubtedly saves wear and tear on the unit because it stops when it gets to the end of the record. Dj's probably don't use this feature much because they never get to the end of the record. They just keep looping!

Construction. Obviously some turntables are more roadworthy than others. Home enthusiast's probably won't care much, except if your wife is one of those who needs to endlessly rearrange the furniture. If you Dj and haul equipment to your gigs you will want a sturdy base and cover and a locking mechanism on the tone arm. Just saying...

Speed. Turntables operate at 33 1/3, 45, and 78 rpm. Make sure you have all three options, or there may be some things you can't play.

Conclusion. Seems the sound of vinyl has never undoubtedly gone out of style. The turntable you use to play it on will be largely considered by your funds and where you intend to play it. Dj's will want obvious options, while home enthusiasts will want something else. Some features may be needful to both. Be sure to collate your needs and collate features carefully. Only you can make that decision!

Different Types of Headphones

!±8± Different Types of Headphones

Headphones have been around for awhile now but still represent a huge portion of the headphone market today. There is of course a good reason for this and it is the popularity of iPods and MP3 players. Due to huge demand for headphones in the market, it created options for the following varieties available.

Circumaural headphone: Usually used in recording studios. Large round ear pads, covering the ears completely; acts as sound proof from outside environment.

Ear buds headphones: Stylish appearance and most widely used. However, they tend to cause irritation to other commuters when traveling. This is because they sit on the outer area the ear and do not block outside noise so it demands higher volume for the wearer to enjoy the music, which is not good for ears and as well the sound travels to the outside world causing disturbance to people around.

Supra-aural headphones: Foam rubber headsets, usually cheap and can be easily damaged.

Canal phones: Directly put into the ear canal giving a good quality sound, cutting down the interference of outside noise. This makes the Canal phone / in the ear headphone ideal for music lovers with its cleaner listening environment.

If you are in the market for a pair of ear buds from the above suggested, you may start to wonder about some of the terms used i.e. noise isolating or noise canceling. The difference between these two things is the kind of sounds they can block for sound clarity. So, why waiting choose your best headphones and enjoy rock, soft, or harmonic music as per mood.

Technics SL-1210MK5G Turntable - You Must Read This Before Buying

!±8± Technics SL-1210MK5G Turntable - You Must Read This Before Buying

The Technics SL-1210MK5G is a mixers delight. If you're a Dj in the market for a new turntable, look no further than the SL-1210MK5G. Sure, it's expensive, but well worth the price. And, the whole Technics SL line is respected by top DJ's worldwide. Aside from a minor gripe about the cover not having hinges (which in my opinion would just be in the way of DJing, and hinge kits are available from third party vendors) the features on this thing are awesome! The direct drive turntable is powered by a high torque engine which makes starts nearly instantaneously. Pitch control is right on and features a quartz controlled no-click slider for smooth transitions. The look of the unit is also really cool. With its black aluminum case and Technics logo on the turntable, you'll be proud to enter the club with this thing under your arm. It also features a heavy rubber base to keep vibrations down to a minimum. Definitely a DJ's delight!

There are quite a lot of features with this baby, but the following are a few that stand out to me:

Total quartz locked continuous pitch adjustment +/-8% and +/-16% High torque motor (1.5Kg/cm) provides for quick start-ups (0.07 seconds) Extremely sensitive low mass tone-arm Adjustable pressure stylus Rock solid quartz DD accuracy Low wow and flutter 0,01% WRNMS Low rumble -78dB (DIN B) Pitch reset button Adjustable stop break Durable LED needle light Recessed on/off switch to eliminate accidental shutdown (VERY embarrassing!) Removable lid Smooth, quartz-locked, non-click slider controls pitch

In my opinion the Technics SL-1210MK5G is the top turntable in its class. If you're a DJ, you can't afford to be without a pair of these. Or, if you're just into old vinyl, you will not find a better player than this. This turntable is certainly worth looking into.
